For clients

How is StewardMatch different from a job board?

You don't scroll through hundreds of profiles. StewardMatch matches you with up to 5 background-checked providers who fit your must-haves, and care providers pass extra checks, reviewed by our team, before they can be matched.

Where is StewardMatch available?

We're opening soon. You can sign up from anywhere in the US today, to hire help or to offer your work. We'll open matching city by city, starting where the most people have signed up, and let you know when we open near you. If no one fits your request, you're never charged. Childcare, night newborn care and elder care open state by state as each state's legal review is finished.

Can I hire for more than one home?

Yes. Save each home, like a Milwaukee home and a Florida home, and each request is matched to people near that home. You can set the months you're there, and your address stays hidden until you both say yes.

Can I hire and work from the same account?

Yes. One account works both ways. Switch between hiring and working anytime, and your ID check covers both.

Who employs the provider?

You do, directly. StewardMatch makes the introduction; you and your provider agree on the work, schedule and pay. Depending on hours and pay you may have household-employer duties, so check with a tax or legal advisor.

Who handles pay and taxes?

How you set up pay and taxes is between you and the person you hire. Some hires are employees and some are independent professionals. If you're hiring for your home, a household payroll service can handle it for you.

Can I ask for more than one kind of help?

Yes. Pick every category you need, then choose one person for everything or a specialist for each.

How fast will I get matches?

Most matches arrive within minutes once matching is open in your area, including childcare and elder care, because care providers are checked before they're approved. Special cases, like newborn care, overnight or live-in care, or care for someone with developmental needs, get a personal look from our team first, usually within one business day.

What's included in each role?

Every category lists what's included, what can be added and what isn't part of the role. See Services.

What if none of my matches is right?

Tell us what didn't fit and we'll rematch you free within 30 days.

I need someone just once, or at the last minute.

Choose one-time or backup when you make a request. Checked providers nearby who are free can raise their hand, and you pick who you want or take the first qualified yes.

What if my provider cancels before starting?

Your fee isn't lost. Choose a priority rematch within 24 hours with no new fee, or keep the fee as credit toward any match in the next 12 months.

For providers

What does it cost to join?

Joining is free. Your only cost is your own background check. We never take a cut of what you earn and never charge lead fees.

Can I work in more than one area?

Yes. Add each area you work in and the months you're there, like Milwaukee year-round and Florida in the winter. You're only matched where and when you're available. Some roles need approval or a license in each state.

Is the background check fee refundable?

No. The fee pays for a check that is actually run, whatever the result. Your check stays valid for 12 months, and we only invite you to pay once your category and area are accepting providers.

Why is my category on a waitlist?

We only invite providers where clients need them, so nobody pays for a check just to wait. We'll email you when it opens.

Do I have to record a video?

No. An intro video is optional. It never affects matching.

Can I turn down an intro?

Always, for any reason, with no penalty. The client never sees a reason.

What if a client stops replying?

After 7 days with no reply, mark the intro as no response. You're free for new intros and it never counts against you.

What if I accept and then can't take the job?

Cancel as early as you can so the client gets a quick rematch. We match on availability, so after two cancellations in 6 months we'll ask you to confirm your availability before sending new intros. Emergencies don't count.

Payments & membership

What do I pay StewardMatch?

One fee, once: 10% of your first month with your provider, never less than $29 or more than $999. For one-time jobs and shifts, it's 10% of the whole job.

What does a one-time booking cost?

For one-time and short-notice jobs, the fee is 10% of the whole job, from $29 to $999. A $500 weekend of babysitting means a $50 fee. You pay your provider directly.

What do Plus and Household include?

Plus ($29 a month, first month free) takes 25% off every fee and gives you one everyday-help credit a month. Household ($79 a month) takes 50% off every fee and adds monthly credits for assistants and events, a household and care credit every three months, priority matching and a named contact.

What is StewardMatch Estate?

A membership for larger homes: $299 a month (3-month minimum) or $2,990 a year, by application. It adds estate roles like estate managers, butlers and groundskeepers, longer reference checks and NDAs, and a dedicated coordinator. Estate placements are 10% of the first month, with no $999 cap. See StewardMatch Estate.

Can I cancel my membership?

Anytime, in one click from your account. No calls, no contract.

When am I charged?

Once per request, as soon as your first match says yes. If no one says yes, you pay nothing. The one fee covers that request, whoever you hire.

Are fees or memberships refunded?

The match fee is only charged once a provider accepts, and it isn't refunded after that. If it doesn't work out, rematches are free for 30 days. Memberships can be cancelled anytime and last until the end of the period you paid for; they aren't refunded.

For businesses

Who employs the staff I hire?

Your business does, as your employee or contractor. StewardMatch makes the introduction and never takes a cut of their pay.

What checks do business staff pass?

The same ID check, background check, references and profile review as every provider, plus role certifications: an alcohol server certificate for bartenders, a food handler card for catering help and a driving record check for drivers.

How much does a shift cost?

10% of the shift's total pay, from $29 to $999, charged only once your staff are confirmed. For example, 4 servers for 6 hours at $25 an hour is $600 in pay and a $60 fee.

Safety & privacy

Who does the checking?

Both. Identity, background and registry checks are run by a licensed background-check company through StewardMatch. A person on our team then reviews each profile, the references and every certificate or license before a provider is approved.

What checks do providers pass?

An identity check, a background check, two references and a profile review, plus extra checks for childcare, family assistant, elder care and driving. See Trust & Safety for details.

How do I report a concern?

Use Report a concern on any match or intro, or contact us. In an emergency, call 911 first.

Is my information private before I hire?

Yes. Messages and calls go through StewardMatch, and names, numbers, emails and addresses stay hidden until you both say yes. We never sell your data.

How do ratings work?

After a hire, clients and providers rate each other. Neither sees the other's rating until both are in, and an average shows only after 3 ratings.
